Impendle to Cedara — where it started.

I was born and raised in Impendle, a small rural town in the Midlands, roughly 65 km west of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Growing up, I herded cattle alongside my younger brother — early lessons in patience, responsibility, and paying attention to things that don't ask twice for it.

After grade 9, my parents moved me from Impendle to Cedara, an agricultural college and farm where my father worked for more than three decades. I lived with him there for four years until I completed my matric in 2003. Those years are when I got to know my father properly, and where we built the relationship that still shapes how I lead and work today.

Building the toolkit — one qualification at a time.

I hold a National Diploma in Civil Engineering from Mangosuthu University of Technology, followed by a Higher Certificate in Project Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA). I went on to complete a Bachelor of Technology degree in Civil Engineering at Durban University of Technology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Alongside the technical and business qualifications, I completed my second year of Bible Studies at Covenant Fellowship Christian International (Pinetown Campus), and numerous short courses and certificates in communication, management, engineering, and leadership over the years. I'm currently registered for an online degree in Computer Science through the University of the People (USA).

From the drawing board to the site handover.

My career began at a consulting firm — Royal HaskoningDHV, then known as SSI Engineers — in Pietermaritzburg. That's where I was molded: road design, documentation, and construction gave me the fundamentals. From there I built extensive experience in the construction of buildings and bridges across various construction methodologies, in retaining structures, and in project management through to final handover.

Today I'm a registered Civil Engineering Technologist with ECSA and a Project Management Professional (PMP) with PMI, and I'm currently pursuing professional registration with SACPCMP.

The sweets stall never really stopped.

Entrepreneurship started early — selling sweets at primary school and carrying that through to high school. The love of farming and business only grew stronger over the years, even as working life got in the way for a while. Today it's very much part of what I do.

I'm a director of Ngonyama Agribusiness (Pty) Ltd, with interests in agriculture, value-adding, and crop and livestock farming, and the parent company behind Shop House, an online and physical store. I'm also a director of Future Harvest Properties (Pty) Ltd, a property development and investment company.

Chasing the six world majors.

I've completed four Comrades ultra-marathons, two Two Oceans marathons, the Soweto Marathon, and many others besides. The goal now is the six World Marathon Majors. I'm a member of the Comrades Marathon Association and an executive member of the Xcel Running Club.

A journey in finding my voice — and helping others find theirs.

As a Toastmaster, I've served as Area Director for District 74 of Toastmasters Southern Africa, and at club level as President, VP Education, VP Membership, VP Public Relations, Secretary, Club Coach, and Mentor.

I also serve in the SAICE Durban Branch, and mentor for both SAICE and ECSA. I'm a reviewer and assessor of ECSA candidates.
